The Village Clerk
The Village Clerk is appointed by the Village Manager. As the
contact between the citizens and the government, the Clerk's Office
can be called the hub of local government. The Clerk is expected to
know virtually everything about the operation of the Village and how
to accomplish all that needs to be done. When answers are not
readily available, the Clerk's Office must know how to refer
questions or problems for proper handling.
The Office of the Village Clerk is the
principal source for information sought by the public; therefore,
the most important links between Village government and the public
that it serves are public relations and effective communication. The
Clerk's Office is a service department that is the oldest office of
municipal government. It is the clearinghouse for obtaining data
about Village government. Some of the
services provided by the City Clerk's Office involve:

are posted prior to the meeting at Village Hall, the Library and on
the Village website. Residents are encouraged to attend and are
given the opportunity to speak at all regular meetings. (Click

election.

office.

Treasurer's Reports by candidates.

the poll workers who work at the precincts.

Citizen Advisory Boards
Citizen participation is vital to a democratic government. The
Village recognizes the unique contributions made by volunteers and
encourages involvement in the policy-making process through service
on advisory boards. The standing Council Advisory Boards consist of
the Board of Adjustment, Beautification Board, Code Enforcement
Board, Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals, Land
Development Board, Library Board and Leisure Services Board. Other
ad hoc committees may be appointed from time to time. Each provides
valuable input in the decisions made for the community. Applications
for appointment are available in the Office of the Village Clerk and
on the Village website. (Click here to view this page)
Lien Searches
When a property sale is anticipated, title companies submit requests
to the Village Clerk's Office for a search of our records to
determine whether there are any outstanding liens against the
property. These liens could include lot mowing liens or Code
violation liens. We also provide the title companies with
information regarding outstanding utility bills. When selling a home
or refinancing a mortgage, this information is vitally necessary to
close the deal. The Village provides this service at a minimal
charge.
Voter Registration
Residents are encouraged to register to vote and exercise their
civic duty. Applications are available at Village Hall, the Library,
most banks, driver's license offices, and the county Supervisor of
Elections office. You must notify the Supervisor of Elections if you
change your name or residence address. (Click
